Current water tank rebate schemes include:
- Up to $1,500 from the State Government Water Tank Rebate scheme
- Up to $650 from the Local Council Water Tank Rebate scheme
- A special Rainwater Tanks in Schools Rebate Program is also available for schools
The dollar amount varies based on the size of the tank and its connection to existing water systems. The maximum rebate is available for water tanks connected to washing machine / toilets that are 7,000 litres or above. |

When does the State Government Rebate start?
The NSW Government Rainwater tank rebate will be available to households across NSW from Sunday July 1st 2007.
Why has the State Government implemented the Water Tank Rebate Scheme?
The rebate is part of the NSW Governments $310 million climate change fund.
How much is the rebate?
Up to $1500 to install any type of new rainwater storage system in an existing home. The rebate is scaled so that the highest level will be paid for tanks connected to toilets and washing machines. Please see the table above for the exact amount for your situation.

How do I qualify for the Local Government Rebate scheme?
To qualify for the rebate, the rainwater tank must be both:
- a new tank with a capacity of 2,000 litres or more
- purchased on or after 20 October 2002
How do I apply for the rebate?
Once your rainwater tank has been installed you must:
- fill in your part of the Rainwater Tank Rebate Program Form
- get your plumber (if you had plumbing work done) to fill in their section
- attach your official receipts for the tank and installation
- send it to:

When do I get my rebate?
A cheque for your rebate is sent to you within 60 days of receiving your completed application form and receipts for the tank and installation.
